Video-EEG combines traditional electroencephalographic recording with continuous video monitoring. This advanced method allows not only the capture of brain electrical activity (especially cortical) but also the recording of the patient’s clinical manifestations. This enables a precise correlation between cortical electrical activity and observed symptoms, which is essential for the accurate diagnosis of epilepsy and other neurological disorders. The use of video-EEG provides a more comprehensive understanding of the patient’s condition, helping doctors to better identify specific patterns associated with different types of epileptic seizures or other neurological manifestations.

Preparing for a Video-EEG Recording

To ensure high-quality recording, the patient’s hair and scalp should be clean. We recommend that parents wash their child’s hair no more than a day before the procedure, without applying any hair care products (such as hairspray, gel, or conditioner). The EEG technician will measure the child’s head circumference, select the appropriate easycap headset, clean the scalp with a special substance, and apply a gel to optimize electrical signal conduction.

Duration of Video-EEG Monitoring

The duration of video-EEG monitoring varies based on the individual needs of each patient and is determined by the pediatric neurologist. The standard minimum duration is 40 minutes, but in specific cases, monitoring can last up to 24 hours or longer.
